James Spader Returning as Ultron for Marvel’s Vision Series

I just want to point out that James Spader is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Emmy-winning actor has recently signed to reprise his role of the voice of the chief antagonist – Ultron in the Marvel Studios series ‘Vision Show’, a spin-off show to the immensely acclaimed WandaVision show. He first played the role in 2015’s Avengers: Agents of SHIELD season 2.

Paul Bettany is reprising his role as Vision, the android who fell in love with the Scarlett Witch and then was destroyed by Thanos in Avengers: Civil War, and; §Ant-Man, §Captain America: Civil War, §Spider-Man: Homecoming. WandaVision saw his comeback through magic and the power of sorrow, although he was also back as a rebuilt android, spectral-white.

Terry Matalas, the much-heralded showrunner of Star Trek: Picard, is fronting the new show, which has been called Vision Quest though this is not its true name, and which explores white Vision’s existential crisis.

More mythological characters appear in the show: Ultron, who viewers of Marvel’s movies will remember as a sentient being programmed by Tony Stark/Iron Man to serve as a defense system and, as a result, become hostile to people. He signed up his own intelligent being, who incidentally was Vision, so he could have company in exterminating all humanity, luckily for earthlings this ‘son’ betrays his ‘father’ to help the Avengers in their fight against the antagonist. (Got all that? If not, just rewatch Avengers: Age of Ultron. )

They thought that Ultron was annihilated at the climax of the movie thus it was a mystery how he would come back and the type of interaction that he had with Vision.

The series is intended as the third part of a trilogy that began with Wandavision and continued in the episode entitled Agatha All Along premiering in September on Disney+. The new show has a plan of shooting in England sometime in early 2025.

Spader is one actor whose acting career can be said to have started way back in time and whose acting career has equally embraced both the silver screen and the tiny screen. He was a part-word for mouth origin with such flicks as Sex, Lies and Videotape and Pretty in Pink defining him for the ’80s generation while featuring in Boston Legal made him a TV award winner and giver. He made an appearance on The Office and was a main cast on the NBC crime show The Blacklist that ran from 2013 to 2023.

The actor is represented by the Creative Artists Agency.
