Selena Gomez on Her Mental Health Fight For “Young People Who Reach Out to Me Every Single Day”

Taking to the stage during her Rare Impact Fund Benefit on Thursday, the star said: “Their love and devotion has completely helped me in my darkest moments, and for that I will always be in the debt for them.”

Selena Gomez threw her second annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in L.A. on Thursday and the theme focused on youth mental health after the star spoke out for the cause.

The event themed, “A Night of Radiance and Reflection,” donated to the Rare Impact Fund which aims to rally $100 million to help organisations enhance the availability of youth mental health intervention and awareness as well as education across the globe. Also, one percent of each item sold by Gomez’s Rare Beauty is also contributed to the Rare Impact Fund.

Billy Crudup was the master of ceremonies for the evening, and Gomez used words inside the benefit to discuss the cause stating, “My greatest desire in life has always been to assist individuals.”

When diagnosed with bipolar, the star has something to say, “When I got my diagnosis it altered everything for me.” All was needed aside from the knowledge was the awareness that Enabled me to get the appropriate support. It meant that I could fight them squarely as my mum has always advised me. And it’s the beginning of a new type of trekking, but all of us must have help if we need it or want it, whoever we are.

‘I think connection is important and thus I want to be someone’s voice as maybe they don’t have one or they don’t feel they have one.’ ‘The spirit of the show is to represent youth, those very people reaching out to me each day and sharing their stories with me,’ Gomez added. So I feel like their love and devotion has completely helped me in my darker times, and for that I’ll always owe them so much, and I just want to try my best to do everything I can.

Among the event attendees were Benny Blanco, Dave Burd (Lil Dicky), Wizards Beyond Waverly Place David Henrie, Only Murders in the Building creator John Hoffman, Jeff Rosenthal, Dan Fogelman, Tay Lautner, Halston Sage and Justin Tranter and more. Karol G and Teddy Swims also gave their sets at the end of the night.

“I want Rare to be a comfortable, safe place for people to find resources, to reach out to people if they need help,” Gomez said during The Hollywood Reporter ’s 2018 awards season nominee dinner of why the cause is so important to her. I wanted to make some kind of space that doesn’t exist for our people and for everyone going through it. It’s one of the most beautiful gifts and rewards to be able to share and do anything we can.
