What to expect from Knoxville Catholic 4-star Tyreek King in 2024 TSSAA football season
Tyreek King was creating separation against defensive backs in the Knox Classic 7-on-7 tournament Thursday at Powell.
The junior Knoxville Catholic wide receiver tried to move out of a near defender but then very unusually he frivolously lost the ball on a thirty-yard catch in the first game of the season.
I am happy that he remembered something that could bring back his concentration in the game; he got his head back into it. Shortly after this, he got himself into the same scenario down the left sideline. This time when he stretched his hands for the ball, it clung to his hands like a magnet and a touchdown.
The standout has proved in the early stages of the new year that he is even cooler headed as the 2024 TSSAA football season nears.
King is a four-star wide receiver for the Irish and is ranked the third best player in Indiana for the class of 2026 according to 247 sports composite is. That player is rated also as the No. 25 wideout in the country despite the fact that the athlete has rather modest physical characteristics – 5-11, 170.
King had last season with the stats of 63 receptions for 1125 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He made Division II-AAA East All-Region team and colleges that contacted or offered him a scholarship include Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss to name but a few.
Growing leadership role
Experience separates the current year’s Catholic team from that of last year. King realizes this and is pointedly willing to have more influence vocally, which with the reduction of seniors in the locker room, he will be.
This offseason, Catholic football coach Philip Shadowens has observed such a change. He said King has extended some guidance particularly to a youthful quarterbacks’ group that doesn’t have Neal who is still healing from a foot injury.
Neal who passed for 2,973 yards and 29 TDs last season might be available for week 1, or he might not be Shadowens said. However, the backs have been collaborating more with King.
“He has been good on that aspect from a coaching perspective and supporting our quarterbacks,” Shadowens said. “Yeah, of course, you know, a special, special player. ”
College recruitment
Recruiting profile has improved slowly for the King’s players since last season that was played up to division II-AAA semifinal.
In April, he participated in a national 7 on 7 tournament when he was able to perform high level trick plays and made them look easy. Alabama and Michigan sent their offers shortly after that.
And the showing that you saw today was the fruits of the work he brags about.
‘I’m 10 times better’, King said. “Offseason I did, it something that I still do till this very day I had to work my butt off on the field and I did that. ”
The skills he has repped out tirelessly are his route running which Shadowens said, was second to none in the country.
“The only way people have any shot at covering him is to double him and try to basically get their hands on him at the line of scrimmage and that is a near impossibility. ”
King’s power was apparent to Tennessee football, which tendered him in mid-march the following year, 2023.

Since then, Vols, Kelton has kept regularly in touch with his high school, discussing with Vols Offensive Coordinator, Joey Halzle, Wide Receivers Coach Kelsey Pope, and Head Coach, Josh Heupel.
“Ideally, I communicate with them on a weekly basis,” King said. “I communicate with them a lot. ”
He has given some consideration as to his college football plans, however, his concentration remains on winning a state championship for Catholic.
“Carry on with the working,” King said. Prevent my head from getting scatter brained so that I don’t lose my bearings. ”
