Top Boy Star Jasmine Jobson to Lead Biopic on Boxing Champion Ramla Ali In the Shadows

Shooting has begun in London for In the Shadows, a drama based on the life of female boxing contender Ramla Ali with Jasmine Jobson of I May Destroy You, winning BAFTA. 
 
Jobson recently bagged home a award at the television awards for her performance in Top Boy. The lady plays the role of the protagonist Ali, a woman, who had to struggle and follow her passion to being the first Somali-British professional boxing champion. 
 
Joining the cast, Jobson stars Finn Cole from Peaky Blinders and Last Breath as the wife’s husband, Richard Moore; Gershwyn Eustache Jr from Andor, Small Axe, and Fortitude as the wife’s boxing trainer, Ali. The real-life couple of Ali and Moore perform the function of executive producers. 
 
“In essence, In the Shadows is a beautiful love and family narrative with complex and inspiring story of a mixed race couple, Ramla and Richard,” a plot summary states. Thus, as the film shows how the main characters overcome racial and cultural differences, their power and support for one another distinguish them as positive models for a new generation. 
 
“It is a full on privilege to portray Ramla and to have the responsibility to tell her inspiring story,” stated Jobson. “But not only as a young Somalian women who has worked so hard, struggled and shown talent as a sprinter – but as someone who arrived in this country as a refugee herself. There are so many lessons people could learn from this, now, especially as the country is divided in regards to politics and leaving the EU. I can’t wait to begin. ” 
 
Ali said of Jobson’s talent: “I, as well as everyone in the team fell in love with Jasmine after seeing her acting in Top Boy as Jaq and I can’t begin to explain how blessed I am to have her play me on the screen She knows better than anyone the feeling of growing up in London and having to fend for herself and for your existence in this world, She comes with a lot of passion, intensity, and real feelings which are hard to come by, 
 
Both, Ali was the first Somali and the first female Somali boxer to participate in the 2020 Olympic Game as well as the first female to win the Somalia professional box match in Saudi Arabia. She started her professional fight in 2023 where she won her first professional IBF intercontinental title at Super bantamweight at Madison Square Garden and among the TIME’s Women of the Year of 2023. 
 
In the Shadows is directed by Emmy Award and three-time BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker Anthony Wonke (Dettori, Syria: Children on the Frontline, Ronaldo) who is a young the man making his debut in the narrative fiction film. Its screenplay is prepared by Ursula Rani Sarma who is a scriptwriter of Bodkin, Delicious. 
 
The film is executive produced by Zygi Kamasa for True Brit Entertainment,a Will Clarke, Andy Mayson, and Mike Runagall for Altitude, Anushka Shah for Civic Studios, Richard Fearn, and Jane Reid Fearn for Affine Films, Natasha Mudhar for The World We Want Studios, Anne Sheehan, Ali, and Moore. 
 
The movie will premiere in 2025 in theatres in the United Kingdom and Ireland; whereas, Altitude will manage the international distribution.
