High school football Defending 5A champion Timpview unanimously voted to finish first in Region 7

Pre-2004 till 2014 the Timpview Thunderbirds were at the top by clinching the state titles eight times. The Thunderbirds after winning the title in 2014 went through a bit of struggle and only coming out strongly last season with 11-2 in the season winning the 5A state title.
In teams gearing up for My 2024 season, the head coaches of Region 7 voted Timpview to come back as the region champions. Timpview head coach Donny Atuaia stated though his team is elated in regards the title they won last year, he wants his team to realize this is a new season with new challenges.
I spoke to Atuaia recently and asked him whether the team is still riding on the momentum of the great season they had last year ‘Of course there is still that good feeling coming of of the previous year. ’ This we are doing, but then again, it is A brand new team.
“The feel of the team is just about getting back to work, let’s start working and let’s start growing ourselves as a team for any opponent this year. ”
Even though last year Timpview came out strong, the scheduling needed freshening as 5A player of the year for the 2023-24 season, Helaman Casuga transferred from Timpview to Corner Canyon. Casuga played at Timpview as a freshman and a sophomore when he was simultaneously acting as a quarterback and achieving 6457 yards at a 0. 84. 3 per cent completion rate for 58 touchdowns.
Finally, at Atuaia, there is indiction that it will be the young players to supply the gaps required at the quarterback position.
Among them Atuaia explained it was a huge blow; “Losing (Casuga) is a big void. ” “Everyone in our team likes Helaman, and we all wish him luck over there in Corner Canyon So, for us, it was whatever player is present is present, and we will work on whoever that is We do have some young students that are realising their potential from the position of being a freshman to that of a quarterback. ”
Interestedly, Timpview has the same need to resign the quarterback hole and is now introducing its third off door coordinator in the space of one year with nicker Robbins working on the Thunderbirds this year. However, there will not be a lot of turnover from the previous year, which means that Timpview will have eight returning starting players from offence and six from the defense line of the last year’s champion team.
Among the returning players for Timpview are middle linebacker Taani Makasini, and the Offensive Lineman Lawyer Atuaia who both made it to the 2023-24 5A All-State First Team.
Back for Timpview is its defensive staff, defensive coordinator Jray Galea’i among them. Importance of output Atuaia raved on the fact that his defensive coaching staff included player with lots of expertise going into this season.
“It’s very nice to have that stability with coach Jray Galea’i and (our assistant coaches),” said Atuaia ‘It’s nice knowing that in our NCAA games, we already have a set that has gelled well. ’ “With those coaches, it has been great because they understand what propelled them and they have young players that they need to mentor and that maybe the best part at the moment. ”
Ever close on the heels of Timpview is Springville, who the fans expected to finish second in the region this season. When Timpview dominated in the year 2023, the Springville Red Devils were not far behind them as they recorded a 4-1 in Region 7.
Red Devils have had good ordinary seasons in the past three years, and 2021 were the state runner up, 2022 they won 8 and lost 2 and 2023 they won 9 and lost 3. However over the last two seasons, Springville has not been able to convert success to the playoffs.
In the year 2022 the team was ranked number three and they seeded into the state tournament but they lost to number 19 Alta in the second round. In the 2023 it was the similar picture where Red Devils entered the stages as second seed but lost to tenth seed Bountiful in quarter final.
Red Devil’s head coach David Valeti has noticed it that his teams have been close and is ready to unleash his team to greater transmutation this season.
“The philosophy with us is, one play at a time starting from the first whistle and up to the final sounding of the final buzzer,” noted Valeti. ‘Everyone here is eager to get the season going. ” Here at Springville, we pride ourselves as the most physical team on the field, the most disciplined team on the field- that will not change.

Springville will be considerably strong this year because all of the seven starters in the offence as well as six starters in the defense will be recurring.
In the previous year, Springville limited their opponents to 14. 08 points per game, something that had not being done by any team that played in 5A. The Red Devils are planning on revisiting that performance and they will be aided by the fact that four of their defensive backs are returning players.
Springville was not as efficient as a team in offense as in defense last year, scoring 29. Two years later, nine points per game was the scoring average, and this placed the team 11th in 5A for the season. Considering the fact that Springville will have seven starting offences that are returning those who are interested in getting a head start should do so this season.
“Continuity is a great thing,” Valeti acknowledge this comment. “I think we have fairly many guys coming back next year and we have been striving the best to ensure that we are fit to play when the leagues begin. ”
Pre-season Region 7 preview placed the Orem Tigers as the third team this year.
In Lance Reynolds’ first year as a head coach of Orem high school’s team the Tigers’ overall record was 5-7 and they advanced to the first round of the state tournament where they defeated Wasatch high school. Reynolds’ aim for this season is consequently to consolidate on the previous progress made in the previous season.
“After a season of injuries which really weakened the 2024 Orem Tigers, the team has strengthened it force and found a new desire of winning,” opined Reynolds. “This coming fall, the returning players list of the Tigers will be fortified with some new players who are capable of making some plays. ”
Orem will construct with its returning eleven starters from last year, six on the offense and five on the defense. There are plans that the Tigers are looking forward to consolidating on the previous year’s performance by the team because with age they will be even better in the 2024 season.
Finishing in fourth place has been voted is the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles. Maple Mountain was average last season with 6 wins 6 loses, 12th in offense in 5A, and 19th in defense in 5A.
Head coach Kalin Hall noted that the coaching staff considered last season as a successful one for the youthful team because most of the players gained much-needed voltaire experience.
As Hall stressed, the whole football season of Maple Mountain High School in the year 2023 could be indicated as one of the most difficult, but at the same time filled with opportunities to demonstrate determination. An inexperienced and mostly first-year varsity starting lineup the team had several issues to deal with.

This season Hall wishes to harvest the fruits of the performance that bore fruits the previous year. Ironically, Maple Mountain returns five of last year’s star offensive starters and will have to turn to senior Mason Jenson for the quarterback slot.
The Wasatch Wasps were predicted to be fifth in Region 7 when a preseason poll was taken among local media members. Wasatch is the only team in the region to be changing a head coach with the new one being Jody Morgan for Steve Coburn.
What some might not know is that this is not the first time which Morgan will be holding the head coaching reigns. Morgan earlier served as the head coach for Riverton between the year 2018 and 2022.
In the year 2023, Wasps concluded their season at the third place on an equal footing with Maple Mountain and Orem High senior football teams. wasatch a team that stands at 3-7, this concluded their season by not getting past the first round in the state tournament.
Entering last season, Cedar Valley did not even register a single win against an in-region opponent and as such was predicted to yet again come in last in the region.
Another head coach that will practically need to train hard is Weston Zabriskie’s Aviators since the team’s offense will only retain three starters from the previous season, the remaining array is new faces this year.
“I think we have a great bunch of kids here and the boys are willing to put in the work and be ready for whatever may come each match,” Zabriskie added. “We have many kids waiting for their turn to be leaders on the team with the current starting players They are eager and prepared to play. ”
Offensively Cedar Valley Tee repeated the previous year’s performance and scored 41 points per game, while the team’s defense was not very competitive and was letting 40 points per game, ranking 24th among the 27 teams in 5A. Look at it this way, seven of the student athletes who were defensive players last year are back and Cedar Valley’s new hopes are to reduce that figure.

The coach of Maple Mountain is Kalin Hall, who is entering his second year and was previously a quarterback for BYU; the team played their first season in 2020 and went 6–6. He has his early education from Valley High School, Nevada and has done his degree from Brigham Young University.

This football season of Maple Mountain High School was all about Readiness – being able to come back from being down and struggling. Since most of the players are first-year varsity starters and the team has little prior experience, the team would encounter many problems. Nevertheless, it could be said that it was rather called an overachiever team since the mentioned difficulties were faced on the way of navigators. The coaching staff on the other hand said their success was as a result of hard work, discipline, and positive attitude among the players.
The change of the coaching staff in their first year paved the way for a strong disciplinarian to set roots, which defines the team. Their efforts almost to take the team to Rice-Eccles Stadium where now fans are visualizing the considerable improvement demonstrated in a limited period of time. The performance by a young and most often inexperienced team together with the dream of the coaching staff means that there is a superb future for Maple Mountain football. ”
