In Hulu’s two-part documentary, Shields’ opened up about her sixty-year career in acting and share that she was sexually assaulted in her twenties at the hands of a Hollywood executive.

Although Rowan knew about her mom’s assault, Shields said she “didn’t coach” her youngest for the hard-hitting material that the doc offers.

They are so delighted because the message delivered was something they did not expect though according to the actress, it was just a miscommunication. “I had explained it was an exploration of sexualisation of women in my industry but I was naively thinking that because we had such a solid, healthy, fairly normal life and I ‘am not entirely broken she would say ‘Wow you have overcome so much but look where we are now’.

Speaking to People, Shields said that she attempted to reassure Grier that there is a ‘happy ending’ and her daughter replied: ‘I will never be okay with thinking something bad happened to you’.

Another happy part of the story was missed by her the actress said. “She felt helpless and like any parent we are not infallible and at times we jump to conclusions. ”

Shields has two daughters for Chris Henchy her husband.

Shields also shared a scene to The Hollywood Reporter last year which is close to the end of the doc where she is sitting with daughters at dinner table discussing about Pretty Baby and what they felt about it and what she had as a child actor.

“This stunned me,” the lady who argued that she acted because she loved the character said. “That was not the plan. But the things that my daughters said, I’m not sure I would’ve being able to have that kind of conversation had this documentary [not] come up. To hear their view and have them chatted with me as young woman and for them to talk about me growing up and me being their mother in that environment was touching. I felt this is the right time for [this conversation].
