Athletes compete at Girls Flag Football Jamboree ahead of 1st IHSA-sanctioned season for sport

This Saturday’s vigorous game was perfectly whipped at Morgan Park High School, as the two players performed exclusively in their athletic capacity. 
 
There was a lot of energy with not just the fourth-annual Girls Flag Football Jamboree but anticipation for an amendment this year in the sport. 
 
This fall will be the first officially approved high school girls flag football season in Illinois. 
 
The main rule that distinguishes touch football from regular is the inability to tackle, yet the game does not differ in the level of physical contact from football, Whitney Young High School’s coach Valerie Spann commented. ‘Still you run your routes, and you play aggressive defense,’ He added that: ‘This is a big deal, It has been a long time coming, I knew it would come at some point, but not as soon as it came. ’ 
 
After additional research about the topic, More House’s high school senior Cherish Sanders began playing football in the fifth grade with boys, she noted. 
 
‘I think it’s very exciting. I feel like now we get to show out and show everybody our talent,’ said Sanders. 
 
They also acknowledged that they have noticed the female sport gradually expanding. 
 
Wendell Phillips Academy high school senior Iycis Hardin confirmed, claiming, ‘It’s my life, so I love it. ’ Of course I will do anything for the sport, any thing for my team, coaching people… anything anybody requires. This is just my sport. 
 
Now, it is an official IHSA-sanctioned sport, There are over 150 Girls Flag Football teams that will be playing across the state. 
 
CPS Girls started the league in 2021, and the enhancement from then to this year, there is the sign of confidence, and they even express themselves by using words, Though Zavala meant it as motivation, the words clearly struck the hearts of the girls. 
 
Adding on to this they said that each year the league expands; thus, providing more chances for women footballers. 
 
Which is fine for those who do not have outlet they could use this as outlet sport,- Sanders. Some girls do not wish to play football thinking it can only be for boys, but they ought to know, there are those of us who wish to get somewhere in life with flag football. 
 
The season begins officially on the 12 of August and the first game is played in the week beginning the 26 of August.
