Yellowstone Star Kelly Reilly to Lead Sky Original Crime Thriller ‘Under Salt Marsh’

Filmed in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, it depicts a close-knit community living in a geographically disadvantaged area with mountains on one side and the sea which is gradually advancing on the other.

Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly to front a new Sky Original crime thriller called Under Salt Marsh.

From writer, creator and executive producer Claire Oakley (Make Up), and directed by the same, Sky Studios will start shooting for Under Salt Marsh this year.

Morfa Halen is a fictionalised post-industrial Welsh town surrounded by mountains and the sea that is slowly consuming the area and its people. When a super tornado, known only to happen once in a lifetime starts to form out in the ocean of Wales, former detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis (Reilly) find her eight year old pupil Cefin dead from drowning. ‘This discovery shakes up the community; brings back the unsolved cold case which was attempted to be buried—the disappearance of Nessa, which also ended Jackie’s career,’ reads the show’s synopsis.

“Under Salt Marsh is a crime thriller telling the story of the relationships between the people of a community and their environment, accompanied by pain, anxiety, inspiration and guilt,” said showrunner Oakley. “Sitting at the core of it all is Jackie: a madwoman of the wilderness if there ever was one, and our girl is just that: free-spirited, tender, hard-headed and unyielding in the face of adversity She is one of the land and we could not be happier to have Kelly Reilly as Jackie.

Under Salt Marsh is created by Little Door Productions and is in co-production with Sky Studios. The series is created and penned down by Oakley, Jonny Harbottle and Nikita Lalwani. Episodes three and four are directed by Mary Nighy while the series is produced by Oakley.

Under Salt Marsh will be aired on Sky and streaming on Now television in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy. The sale of the series internationally will be managed through NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.
