We ask an expert if butterfly tapping is the ultimate hack to sleep like a baby

You were warned that you must switch off all gadgets and lights for the day but you find that your brain is not even off for the day, you are full of many thoughts and that is how you delay your sleeping time and also how your sleeping time is not well spent. If you are shaking your head in agreement, we may have some good news for you.

As stated by Jolie Slovis, a somatic anxiety coach, when your brain looks like this, grasp a handful of your shirt, take both shoulders, rub them and do tapping as if butterflying. “Pressing the area on the chest, people can compare it to the body of a butterfly As soon as person has clasped the thumbs and located the hands on the chest, they start to tap on the left and then on the right side of the chest Optionally, a person starts tapping in one minute or two, their body gives a signal that it is time to calm down and sleep,” Slovis wrote in the IG story.

To substantiate this we contacted Dr Imraan Khan (PT), consultant head physiotherapist, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, who said that the phenomenon of tapping has a cure for better sleep during the night but is not effective for all.

According to Dr Khan, it least stressed can lead to difficulty sleeping poor sleep schedule poor quality sleep or even insomnia in some cases, while in this technique it is all about harnessing the rhythmic vibrations that puts your body in relaxation mode.

This hack may likely suit some circumstance and not the other circumstance. However, as is true with many techniques, there could be drawbacks and is likely to inconvenience a group of people namely those who are mentally challenged, using a butterfly tap hack that involves constant hand movement that may lead to delayed sleep than usual, according to Dr Khan.

In his opinion, people can experiment with some particular changes that concern daily habits, for instance, people could try to develop a sleep schedule that implies at least 7-8 hours of sound sleep.

“While this technique will not harm, it should only be done together with eradicating the cause of stress relaxation activities like playing the favorite music before going to bed to ease the body muscles will help in making a safer and relaxing environment for better sleep quality” said Dr Khan.
