Trump appearance before Black journalists leads to memorable confrontation with ABC’s Rachel Scott
Mainly because of grilling by the ABC News correspondent, Rachel Scott, an interaction of ex-president Donald Trump with a group of Black reporters on Wednesday became rather hostile.
Scott confronted Trump about prior remarks towards Black people, his views on the January 6 riot, and his record on diversity in employment — to which the former president only responded with being mistreatment.
Former president Steve Mugabe stood up and pointed at Scott saying, ‘she was very rude’. ”
Even the walk-in at a meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists was oozing with Trump atmospherics of malign intent from the get-go. Some members protested the invitation of the Republican candidate for president to join the session in the first place, while others maintained that it was in the capacity of journalist to remain skeptical of him.
The Trump panel with Scott; Faulkner, a host of Fox News Channel; and Goba of Semafor was held up by over 30 minutes of technical mishaps.
Scott joined ABC News in 2016, and she used to be one of the campaign correspondents in ABC news; she recently came to limelight when she presented the live update of Biden’s statement on his withdrawal from the presidential race. In her first question, Scott mentioned the case of Trump’s appearance and indicated several Trump statements about Black leaders in the past, such as the fake accusations against the then-President Barack Obama, stating that he was born in the Kenyan territory and other cheeky remarks to members of Congress, district attorneys, and journalists.
“Now that you are asking Black voters to vote for you, why should Black voters trust after using such an offending language on them?” Said Scott.
Trump was quick to take on the propositioner.
When he said this, he squarely replied that he has probably never been asked a question in such a horrible manner, the first question. “‘Hello, How are you?’ don’t say that to me, are you with ABC? because I think they are a fake news network. ”
The first punch was called into the memory of the first debate of Trump’s campaign back in 2016 when, being a part of the Fox News Channel, Megyn Kelly opened with such a question: “Does this sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?”
Scott tried to interrupt Trump on Wednesday when he started rattling off talking points about what his administration did for Black people, saying instead, “Mr. President, let me ask you about rhetoric and why Black voters can trust you for another four years?
Trump said that he was, and repeated one of his previous statements, that he was indeed the best President for the Black community since Abraham Lincoln.
“Better than President Johnson, who has signed Civil Right Act of the United States of America”? Scott asked.
Scott then wondered if Trump condemned those supporters who claim that his Democratic rival Kamala Harris is a DEI hire and argued with him on what the acronym for ‘Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ stood for.
It has been posited that the Biden campaign put you (Vice President Kamala Harris) on the ticket because you are a Black person. Asking a question, Scott prompted Trump to make what would probably become the highlights of the session, the doubts about Harris’ race origins.
Scott also inquired specifically about Trump’s endorsement of those guilty of their misconduct during the insurrection at the U. S. Capitol on January 6.
These are the words of LaShaune Johnson-Fields, she added, “One hundred and forty police officers were assaulted that day. ” Among the injuries – the broken bones, the least was one police officer had an eye ripped off, another had cracked ribs, two others had damaged spinal discs, yet another a stroke Were the people who pistol whipped these 140 officers , shot at them, baton charged them … patriots who deserve pardons …?
Thus, Trump decided to draw attention to the demonstrations of other supporters of liberal ideas.
Thus, the panel concluded in some degree of confusion. When the last question was in the offing and specifically when Faulkner sought to ask about the Project 2025 which is the blueprint of Trump’s campaign, Scott, the moderator, turned down the question on the grounds that Trump had run out of time.
After the session, Trump shared on his Truth Social site, the questions were Rude and Nasty, often in the form of a statement, but we CRUSHED IT!
Kelly Arrington, a student, journalist, attending the conference, from Savanah State University ultimately noted, “I thought Trump was only going to come to gain more votes of the black community … But, in this talk, he did not respond to the questions that were asked to him. ”
The session was a social media staple, fast, some applauded Scott for coming with sharp questions and others who alleged Trump was trapped.
