Top defensive linemen in California Southern Section high school football

They almost exclusively recruit defensive linemen here in Southern California and even more specifically edge rushers.

Among the newer prospects to rule the line of scrimmage on Friday night in the Southland territory are Oaks Christian’s Kayvon Thibodeaux, Servitas’ Mason Graham, and Corona Centennial’s Korey Foreman. All three were blue-chip prospects, that is, prospective players of exceptional value.

is previewing the upcoming high school football season in the CIF Southern Section by featuring the annual look at best players by position, pre-season rankings, other news-making issues before the beginning of Week Zero scheduled for Aug 22nd and 23rd (Thursday and Friday).

Here is the list of the extraordinary defensive linemen to consider in the CIF Southern Section this fall, and a couple more.

Mighty list of top defensive linemen in Southern Section

1. Nasir Wyatt a senior at Mater Dei High School, decided to join the Oregon.

In the year 2023, Wyatt was able to garner 14 sacks and it could have easily been more had he remained in the field throughout all four quotas of each match, it was some matches wherein the Harvesters dominated that Wyatt was benched. The building block of the defence is the relentless pass rusher, they need to be strong, quick and always need to be double-teamed by an offence line.

2. Hayden Lowe Oaks Christian School, ’12, Quarterback, USC

At 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, Lowe invites the comparison to another UGA ace O-lineman signee Kayvon Thibodeaux who also attended Oaks Christian. Charlie Collins, the Lions’ coach, once saw Lowe as another version of KT in the making.

3. Richie Wesley 6-6 So. Sierra Canyon

Wesley could become the No. 1 prospect in the country if not, the West Coast when he is a senior. The defensive end was also sensational as a first-year player: getting six sacks in the first two games before ending the season on nine. 5 on the season in sacks. He already has offers from USC, Miami and Georgia.

4. To the late Tomuhini Topui, Mater Dei, Jr.

The big fella. Topui is currently collapsed at 6 feet, 3 inch, 320 pounds and should be an impact run-stopper in college. That kind of size in high school is certainly one of the problems. He has offers from Auburn, Oklahoma, Michigan and Florida.

5. JJ Hanne, Santa Margarita, Senior (Georgia)

Athlete.

He signed with Georgia this summer and has great size at 6-5, 280 lbs, and shows a lot of position versatility. According to Greg Biggins of 247Sports(2016), he got playing time at tackle, edge, and as a three-tech and has the potential of playing in various fronts and schemes.

6. Shaun Scott, Mater Dei,

Scott is 6-3 230 pounds Scott has received offers from Florida, Miami, Michigan , and Ohio State. So are Oklahoma, USC and Texas.

7. Jaden Williams of Mission Viejo a senior at San Diego State

On this front, the Williams had an outstanding 18. 5 sacks in 16 games last season, and being part of the Diablos’ CIF-SS Division 2 title and CIF State Division 1-AA championship. Williams also made 139 tackles; in total, 39 of them. 5 for loss.

8. Anthony Jones a junior from Crean Lutheran

Jones may have the most potential this fall after moving from just 1 year starter in his sophomore year at 6-5 240 pound with offers from Auburn, Michigan and Georgia. He amassed seven sacks in 11 matches in the previous season.

9. Simote Katoanga, JSerra, Jr.

Katoanga received a number of offers from Power 4 schools such as Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia and UCLA. Katoanga measures 6-foot-4 and 240-pounds, making him a force from the edge but can move to the inside if the Lions require it.

10. Kali Togafau, Rancho Cucamonga Senior High School, (UNLV)

UNLV commit had seven sacks in 11 games last season and had 30 tackles. Wideman also possesses a tremendous physical build of 6-foot-3 inches and is 225 pounds, thus making him very hard for any offense line to handle.

11. Scott Taylor, Loyola, Sr.

He is the image of any footballer that one is likely to think of. Taylor used as both a defensive end and a tight end in the team of the cub. By having a ‘win at all costs’ attitude, Taylor is any coach’s wet dream. He had 77 tackles and 6 sacks in the year 2023.
