The Hottest Ticket in Town: Johnny Depp to Close Out Rome Film Fest With ‘Modi’
Johnny Depp’s new film Modi: This at least is clear, Three Days on the Wing of Madness will screening the last day of Rome Film Festival on Saturday, October 26th and the people of The Eternal City are looking forward to the star.
True, the capstone of what has otherwise been an uninspired 10-day run of the fest will undoubtedly be the Saturday appearance of Johnny Depp, who will be bringing in the biopic Modi, which made its debut at San Sebastian Film Festival and which tells a story of three frenzied days in the life of Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.
In the meantime, if not included in the film fest, Depp’s film is to get the pinnacle Capri Cult Award on the Friday night.
Modi was produced by Barry Navidi, a close friend of Al Pacino and it is he who will collect the Capri prize on Friday night.
Capri Cult Award is an award given by The Capri Institute for the art of motion picture, this is the non-profit making organization which hosts an annual film festival on the island of CAPRI. The annual Capri Fest beings from the December the 27th. Lina Wertmuller is the chair of Capri Institute. The winner of last year was the indie film titled Miranda’s Victim, directed by Michele Danner.
Modi demonstrates directorial calibration of Depp in proving his point beyond clichéd stereotype hit and features the absolute star-studded cast along with Al Pacino that depicts how Modigliani, the famous painter, explores his art, his love failure, and his futility. It emphasizes Modigliani’s struggle for ‘acceptance’ in the art fraternity, painting his creativity and his Katrinaess ordeal.
Depp will meet the film festival fans on Saturday but his ‘frenzy’ starts a day before: the official Capri award shall be presented at the Studios – Ex De Paolis in Rome.
It will be followed by a fabulous gala dinner with attendees from Italian movie industry and other celebrities. Indeed other guests will be the Oscar winner Billie August, Tony Renis the Oscar-winning production designers , Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo. The guests of honor will be Riccardo Scamarcio, the film’s male lead, and Antonia Desplat, the female lead together other Italian celebrities such as Enrico Vanzina, Massimo Ghini, Lina Sastri and many others.
“It has been my great pleasure to connect the official starting signal for the 29th Capri Hollywood in Rome with the 100th anniversary of the first stone laying of the International Studios at Via Tiburtina,” said Pascal Vicedomini, the initiator of the awards ceremony in Capri.
This comes from Vicedomini, who presents an Access Hollywood type-show on Italian television and is the founder and president of the Capri Institute. Although he devoted the bulk of his life to continuously reporting about cinema and the construction of cultural ties between Italy and the United States. During his tenure, the Capri Institute has welcomed major events focused on Italians in Hollywood.
One of the examples of the effect Vicedomini made on the entertainment business is the Capri Cult Award given before the Capri Hollywood (December 27 to January 2). He has made L.A. event in its genealogy the sister event of Capri through donations from the Italian Ministry of Culture and corporate backing.
“This festival is considered a good luck charm for some of our participants,” said Vicedomini. “For instance, we have introduced so many names who were unknown at one time, and then blown, like Gerard Butler and Melanie Laurent he said.”
