Texas high school football scrimmage cancelled after murder of student

Tavion Swindall, who according to what was told to reporters was a first year sophomore, was 16 years old and a first-year football player at Southwest High School in Fort Worth.

This played out after the paper was informed by the police that Fort Worth Southwest High School student Tavion Swindell died from a gun shot incident in a domestic violence case. 
 
,Tarrant County Medical Examiner lists him as being aged sixteen years at the time of his death. 
 
He breathed his last at a hospital in Crowley on Sunday afternoon, prostate cancer having struck a fatal blow, a gunshot in the chest. KDFW-4 said that the quarrel arose while the two were discussing or playing video games. 
 
Deevan Jones, 35, was arrested on Monday and charged with murder and tampering with evidence and his bond was set at $260,000. 
 
In letter sent to parents, Fort Worth ISD announced that all campuses would have crisis counselors on hand. 
 
He is listed on the roster of Southwest High School under the 2024 team. From KDFW-4, he said it was his first year playing. The new academic year began on Aug. 13 when Southwest High School opened its doors for academic business. 
 
The Raiders football team was to have there second scrimmage of the preseason Thursday against Heights at Farrington Field in Fort Worth Thursday at 7:30 p. m. 
 
Fort Worth ISD said in a letter to the parents that the crisis counselors will be on the campus. 
 
SW opens its season at Adams on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p. m.
