Staten Island native Dom DeFalco takes over the varsity coaching reigns at Xavier HS

Fans of Xavier High School football and rugby will recognize this Annadale native, who enjoyed multiple years of Thursday night honors from 2006 to 2010 and since the fall of 2017 joined the football coaching staff. DeFalco, not only, has been a main man in the Knights’ program for over four decades but acted as athletic director before, he only became really the Director of Athletics for Xavier some year ago.
And that was just three months ago when Coach DeFalco managed to clinch it all, ending up with his so called “Xavier hat trick" after being named the head varsity football coach for the school, Advance/SILive. com has learned.
The 31 year old DeFalco is now a successor of the longest-serving coach, Chris Stevens who retired after his 32 years of coaching at the school especially the last 22 which were as the varsity head coach.
‘‘It could hardly be any bigger honor and pleasure. I was just wondering when this opportunity would strike me at this early stage in my career‚ ‘’ said Lil DeFalco. "I had two good high school coaches (Stevens was awesome on the football field and Mike on the rugby) who discretely influence my own coaching pasions. Xavier is an excellent academic and athletic college/university, and I cannot wait to help our men to become smart and disciplined even on the field in order to make a great future after graduation. "
“Competition I personally enjoy," he said. "I am convinced that a coach is not just a teacher but also a mentor. One of my cherishes the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Learning the values of life and passing that knowledge on to others are among my most anticipated features of this job. "
At the time of going, DeFalco was 14 years old and he graduated from Xavier by the time he was on the team of Knights that won the national court of the USA Rugby High School’s Competition. Then, he joined Penn St. for the rugby team and was called a U. S. Collegiate All-American as the senior year. Even in this, his greatest loss, he found the strength to fall in love. Love found him at Penn St. where he met his life partner, Claire.
Stevens came back in as a defensive assistant for the football team’s xavier in the year 2017 and after two years, the head coach called DeFalco the defensive coordinator and Stevens had named DeFalco his defensive coordinator for two-years at the same time mentioned above, Stevans has given the title ‘head coach’ to the DeFalco on February 15, 2
Being a parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea, DeFalco went to St. Joseph Hill High School before St. Xavier and this fact is the main task which DeFalco has to deal with after Stevens had compiled 124-103 record with four CHSFL; Intersectional championships, five regular-season division titles and nine Turkey Day Bowl game victories against St. Xavierarch rival Fordham Prep.
Firstly, let us consider Xavier who is the quarterback (QB) of the team and runs a single-wing offense which utilizes the running game and shift at times. Some shifts are strategically done to confuse the defense, causing them go offsides. DoFalco will not be redesigning the team from the ground up, but would introduce a new element from his coach.
“As far as you might now, we are a team with a smash-mouth offensive attack and a physical hard-nosed defense,’’ said the new coach. "It (t)ill will be me the one who will take the decisions. Our offense will loyal to our roots and will continue to run our traditional plays since our boys are wise of (the system), but just as the run will facilitate us set up more passes, I am planning to introduce some change the system.
To be exact, Xavier competitor in the AA division of CHSFL; it plans to meet two SI teams in the next year. Moreover, it will have stops at Moore Catholic, St Joseph by-the-Sea during autumn break this year. Nevertheless, Lincoln could play exposition or non-league assimilation against Xaverian School at the beginning, but the opening match of Manhattan will be against Moore in September.
DeFalco said that recently graded players participating cherish rugby or some other spring sports, but there are about 20-25 players, who come for workouts nowadays. He is expecting them to put in a full show and be at preseason football camp, with the first day being 14th of August
‘We play in a challenging division that is difficult,’ he said. ‘I’m working hard for the next season’s preparations and I am excited about coming years. ’
