The lead role of a sex worker in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, a screwball dramedy wherein inexperienced actress Mikey Madison of Scream and Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood fame takes on the […] major part of the lesser known film.
Anora had its world competitive debut with this film and emerged a winner when it won the best film award at the Cannes Film Festival. Baker has been showcasing the feature in festivals, presenting Anora at Telluride, Toronto and San Sebastián festivals.
festival review complimented Madison for the portrayal of Anora describing her as sweet who makes even mere exchange seem personal and defensive making her dangerous when cornered.
The next plan for Anora is the filming in Sweden, the movie will open the Stockholm Film Festival of 2024 on November 6. The Tokyo film festival takes place for the 34th time and will last from November, the 6th to the 17th night.
Stockholm is familiar with Baker as he premiered his 2015 breakout film Tangerine and his 2017 feature The Florida Project at the festival. In a statement, the Stockholm festival noted the connection between those features and Anora: They all ’study’ those people who, in one way or another, occupy the social periphery, and focus on the daily experience of sex workers. With this eighth feature independent film in the United States, the humanist and indie filmmaker Sean Baker establishes himself not only as one of the best modern chroniclers of the working class in the country.
In place of Neon, it has Anora for the U.S. market, which it is looking at releasing on Oct. 18.
