Russell Crowe criticises US politics during interview with controversial podcaster Joe Rogan
For the United States that is heading to its election, Russell Crowe has made a very powerful statement on politics.
The US is in the build up to its election, where the incumbent, former president and leader of the Republicans, Donald Trump competes against the vice president and leader of the Democrats, Kamala Harris.
This election is to be done on November 5.
Before the voting day, the New Zealand-born actor who lives in Australia appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, a show hosted by a man famous for his blunt and conspiratorial views, during which he addressed American politics.
During the three-hour debate, the star of the Gladiator demanded that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans continue to “spend money on advertising” and to produce “narativ[es] of the end of the world” joking about leaders.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s just bullshit but if you are leaning that way then it helps your outrage. When, all that you are given is a string of hype and propagnada, it does not help. ”
The actor then targeted the “oppositional-pole” media entities arguing that the later is discouraging talented people from joining politics.
‘You’re just not going to get people of quality stepping into that world any more,’ he said, ‘There are probably hundreds of potentially great presidents in this country,’ but they are to smart to walk that way.
Crowe did not leave his rant at that, he further criticized Americans for the way they vote, saying they are far too concerned with the party than the policies.
It is like choosing a colour and irrespective of what goes on beneath the umbrella of the colour, one remains loyal to the colour, he asserted. ‘Well, that is not going to help anyone really. ’
The actor, who is currently in the US with his band The Gentleman’s Barber, said that, watching the musical Evita was a good reference to try and understand the current political climate in the country, which as per the actor is question of ‘what we can get away with’.
“It was used in the musical Evita … [the phrase] ‘politics is the art of the possible’. It does not have any relevance to anything,” he said.
Rogan continued, “And that you’re seeing now in American politics in a way more than ever because the person who is office is telling you what he/she will do if, s/he gets the office. ”
When Crowe nodded in agreement with the podcaster, the latter said, ”This is madness. ” She has been there for three years; what sort of thing do you want me to give her? This is crazy. ”
However, the Academy Award winner was not entirely a man of negative opinion about the state of the country and said that everyone had to ‘remember’ it is ‘the beacon of freedom of the whole world’.
“It is indeed a very onerous task,” he said.
“If people are seeking for something to change, or for something positive, the overwhelming majority of people will turn to America and say: ‘that is the light, I want to live like that where people can speak their mind and people can have different opinions’. ”
He moved on to assert that for everyone ‘the US needs to think about the future’.
The opinions of the actor from the film Robin Hood became a viral topic on various platforms of social media in rather short time, which gave the people the opportunity to react to his and Rogan’s discussion of Harris’ apparent inactivity in the course of becoming the VP.
“Let me ask you: are you all aware that the VP has policymaking authority and is thus charged with the policies of the Executive Branch?”, a user posed.
‘The VP is not empowered by the constitution to do much at all,’ another X user said, ‘And y’all made it abundantly clear that Biden is too old and infirm to do anything, right? So no wonder. ’
Somewhere else one fan appeared to praise the star for his remarks on America as a country of ‘LIBERTY’ to people of the world.
“Those last remarks from Russell about America as the hope of free and open speech really got to me,” the person said.
He also mentioned Australian politics, explaining that it ‘is fine … – pointed to the fact that ‘Teal’ independents captured safe Liberal seats in the 2022 elections.
“It’s making both of the main parties re think their identity and existence,”he said and added that it is not a battle of the colour anymore when one goes to vote but policies.
