Real Megalopolis Architect Is Billionaire Bill Ackman’s Wife
However, in his fully acknowledged and rejected box office failure, Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola explores a wild, utopic vision of a futurological annexation of a development in the form of a dream of its protagonist Cesar Catilina, an America’s contemporary urbanist and architect who has created a novel construction material called Megalon. To create the otherworldly biomorphic city of the film, the director collaborated with an award-winning middle-aged interdisciplinary designer Neri Oxman, an Israeli-American, who specializes in what she calls material ecology.
Oxman, whose work has been exhibited at MoMA and the Centre Pompidou and who previously collaborated with Bjork on a 3D-printed mask that externalized the singer’s musculoskeletal system during a performance, says on her website that she drew inspiration for the film’s utopian citycape from Manhattan’s pre-colonial pastoral past: “Hills are the leftovers of skyscrapers and valleys are aligned to the city streets on the grid.” In Coppola’s movie, the alterative-dimension municipality has been renamed New Rome.
Oxman, who failed to provide comment on her participation in the movie to The Hollywood Reporter at the time of publication, was pictured alongside Coppola at the New York City premiere of Megalopolis on September 23. Years ago, paparazzi had staked her out after the noted architecture aficionado Brad Pitt came to visit her lab while she was still a professor tenured at MIT; they probably were lovers, or at least the photographers thought so. She in particular, still a major character in the movie, has a short but significant appearance as a doctor. “One of most of Dr. Shira and science the Megalon was left, cutting room floor,” her husband, billionaire I activist investor Bill Ackman, said on social media afterwards.
Coppola brilliantly burst the bubble of DEI, the pop woke culture, and self-professed Big Ideas man Ackman is an outsized fixture right out of New Rome. That advocacy campaign to oust Harvard’s then-president over plagiarism charges backfired this year for Oxman, who apologized last week for citation mistakes in her own PhD thesis. It was previously protracted when Oxman faced controversy over a donation to her MIT lab from the disgraced sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, when Ackman private attempt to gag her academic boss on the matter surfaced.
It is unknown when Coppola contacted Oxman about the project, but the more recent events with scandal regarding her or her husband could not have phased the director – perhaps the contrary. In the lead up to the release of Megalopolis he explicitly stated in interviews that for this project he purposefully surrounds himself with people who he considers have been, ‘cancelled’, saying, “What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production.”
