My Lady Jane Canceled After Single Season at Amazon

My Lady Jane Canceled After Single Season at Amazon

Just as the actual Jane Grey, the reign of My Lady Jane proved to be more of a fleeting one.

Thus, Amazon’s Prime Video has axed the set-in-Georgian-era period drama with elements of romance and the twisting of the laws of physics. The cancellation seems to have occurred approximately seven weeks after Prime Video premiered all eight episodes of the show’s first and, as it turns out, only season.

My Lady Jane is a young adult novel by authors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows The story is set in an alternative 16th century England with a monarch and a society inhabited by shape-shifting beings, who are half people, half animals. Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is an ordinary person, a Verity, who develops compassion to the persecuted shape-shifting Ethians, which will be an inconvenient for the upper class when Jane ascends the throne.

Co-stars include Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper and Anna Chancellor, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent and Ollie Chris, who narrates.

My Lady Jane was average with the viewers with most of the critics giving positive feedback; Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter suggestively wrote while My Lady Jane isn’t ‘quite as edgy or uproarious as the title suggests, the eight-hour season offers plenty of amusement. ’

This series was developed by Gemma Burgess and co-showrun by Meredith Glynn. They co-executive produced with director Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald. The series was produced by MGM Studios for Amazon.

What Deadline first reported was the cancellation.
