Kamala Harris criticises Trump over Arlington Cemetery dispute
Kamala Harris is condemning former president Donald Trump over a fresh row that his campaign used the Arlington National Cemetery, a military cemetery, as a political stage.
Ms Harris came for Trump on Saturday through her social media account where she said that Trump disrespected sacred ground and all that in the name of a stunt to advance his political career.
The US Army claimed that a Trump staffer “suddenly shoved” aside a cemetery worker who was about to inform them that there was restrictive policies against taking videos inside the cemetery.
There has been a disagreement between Trump campaign and the cemetery team, where Trump campaign gave an account that they had gotten the consent of the families of the soldiers to take the video.
The event occurred on Monday when trump was already at a reception dedicated to the memory of 13 military service members of the United States who were killed during the withdrawal of their country from Afghanistan three years ago.
Thus, Saturday’s post is the first time Ms Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, has addressed the issue.
She stated that she has been to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia many times when she has been the vice president and that, she will not use the said cemetery for any political tirade.
“The only thing that is unequivocally clear for all Americans is that our veterans, military families and servicemembers should be revered, demeaned and ought not be given anything less than the reverence and appreciation that they deserve,” Ms Harris said.
“And it is my belief that someone who cannot meet this simple, sacred duty should never again stand behind the seal of the President of the United of America. ”
During a rally in Michigan on Thursday during his campaign, Trump responded to those people who have condemned him over the incident.
He said that he was willing to be pictured at the site after the memorial as there were relatives present with the slain soldiers.
“I go there, they take a picture and they tell me I am campaigning,” Trump said. ‘The one thing I’m getting a lot of is that publicity thingie They don’t need that. I don’t need the publicity.
The Trump campaign on Sunday released a letter from the Gold Star military families who invited the former president to the event which they said he attended to pay tribute to relatives they lost in action.
They also attacked Ms Harris in this statement branding her as having the audacity to politicize this sacred moment.
At the same time, Trump’s vice-presidential candidate JD Vance used the struggle for the withdrawal of American cities and blatant disrespect for Ms Harris to blame the Biden administration for the Afghan catastrophe, stating that she “can go to hell”.
Picking up on the accusations three years later, Mr Vance told BBC’s US partner, CBS News that 13 brave, innocent Americans died and they died because Kamala Harris refused to do her job.
NPR also documented earlier that two members of Trump campaign staff verbally attacked the cemetery worker and literally shoved her out of the way when she attempted to intervene.
A federal law bars use of the cemetery for political campaigning and the US Army aver that everyone involved was duly advised of this position in advance.
The US Army spokesman expressed that they would like to state that the event was quite unfortunate, and what happened to the ANC employee which accused is equally regrettable as well as the attack on her professionalism.
The Trump campaign has vehemently dismissed the physical nature of the event that took place at the cemetery stating that, “we are ready to release photos if such outrageous claims are uttered”.
House Democrats have since demanded answers from the US Army with regards to the incident stating that they want a “full report on this incident. ”
