Jenna Ortega Says Women Should Have Their Own Franchises: “I Don’t Want ‘Jamie Bond'”

Jenna Ortega offered her opinion about the new tendency of Hollywood to recreate the legendary films with a female protagonist.

The star of the Wednesday was conducting the interview along with Catherine O’Hara who she co-starred with in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Host Josh Horowitz asked Ortega what kind of sequels she would like — Prettier than a Pensioner? or would she be interested in doing a sequel to another Tim Burton’s movie, Edith Scissorhands, which is a variation of Edward Scissorhands with her in Johnny Depp’s part?

Both Ortega and O’Hara laughed at the idea at first, but Ortega responded quickly saying: “I love that there are more female protagonists now, I think that is great, but we should have our own“. “If I go to see a movie and get the feeling that it is a spin off — I do not want to see such as ‘Jamie Bond ’ let alone See another badass. ”

This commenter makes this statement of course while another interview that is getting some press consideration has also touched on the concept of musing on James Bond. At the Venice International Film Festival on Tuesday, there was joined Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino to present Queer, in which Craig has sensual scenes with his co-partner, Omar Apollo.

Craig — whose portrayal of Bond was unceremoniously assassinated in No Time to Die released in 2021 — was asked if Queer meant that Bond might be gay in the future. Guadagnino cut off the question, “Guys, let’s be adults in the room for a second. ”

Die another day debate of mixing not only stirring the straight, white, and er, chauvinistic James Bond has been around for years. Before Ortega’s comments, the franchise’s longtime producer Barbara Broccoli also shared a similar perspective about Bond, this year in The Hollywood Reporter, “I think [the next James Bond] will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond,” she said. “There are no enough meaty roles for women so that women had to tread the man’s part; I deserve to do movies for women by women; He should be a British so British can be any [Ethnicity/Race]. ”

Certainly, there are the action films featuring a female James Bond-like character, for instance, Atomic Blonde with Charlize Theron in 2017, Salt with Angelina Jolie in 2010, and Black Widow with Scarlett Johansson and as for TV series a famous show featuring a similar character is Killing Eve. Also, while not a film’s main character, Rebecca Ferguson was widely considered outstanding in her fan-favorite role as an ex-MI6 intelligence agent Ilsa Faust in Mission: Stupid – Impossible – Rogue Nation & etc, etc.
