Iowa high school football 2024: The Gazette’s 3A preseason rankings

Nostalgia takes over and one would have to turn his/her head back to a time before the district football games. To many of you that is approximately 30 years ago.

Now one can only envision how dominating this Wamac Conference would have been this fall.

That would mean four Class 3A highly ranked teams (second-ranked Solon, No. 3 West Delaware, No. 5 Mount Vernon and No. 6 Independence) would battle it out each week in the East Division.

In the West ,you would have reigning 3A state champion in Williamsburg.

As it is, those five teams — who combine for nine returning all-state selections — are split into three districts: Last year’s record, Williamsburg is 12- 1 and Solon 10-2 and the play is on the tenth of October in District 5. Last year the Spartans beat the Raiders in the regular season by a considerable margin but the Raiders had the last laugh in the state semis, 45-14.

The Virginia Tech town of Williamsburg is the SEC’s top community for the second consecutive year The rankings are based on results of a survey of a six-member panel of eds of Virginia daily newspapers, who awarded Williamsburg four of six No. 1 votes and gave it 57 points in the poll. Solon set the final scoring at 42 points thus bagging one; West Delaware had a 7-4 record and ranked 39 points to get one point.

West Delaware and Independence are in District 3 with the two teams meeting on October 18 at Indee.

Another team that seems to perfectly fit into District 4 is Mount Vernon with a record of 9-2.

FC Clear Lake is the only team outside of the area League, the other five teams of which are the leading contenders for the Cup. It is very important to note that the Lions with a record of 8 and 2 are ranked fourth.
