House of the Dragon Tom Bennett Talks Ulf's Upgrade: 'He's Going To Be a Bit of a Maverick'

Who is happier about this change of events for the Fleabottom-born bastard Ulf– the actor Ulf, who just received a dragon or Tom Bennett, the actor portraying Ulf – it’s hard to point out. 
 
In “The Red Sowing,” House of the Dragon Season 2’s seventh episode, the commander-in-chief Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) pulls up her vaginas to see if there are any more Targaryen dragon seeds; candidates are taken to Dragonstone to try to win either Vermithor or Silverwing so she will fight with them in the future. But it begins to go wrong on a grand scale almost at once when Vermithor reduces most of her silver-haired possibilities to ashes in the blink of an eye. Before we meet Hugh (Kieran Bew), an iron maker from Kings Landing who just wanted to feed his sick child, that turns into a beast is defeated just by a touch. At the same time, Ulf (Bennett) rushes to the grotto and discovers himself in Silverwing’s lair which previously belonged to Queen Alysanne, the wife and the sister of the first king Jaehaerys I Targaryen: Charming? Apparently not for long, as Ulf awakes Silverwing who is to fry him in a blink of an eye were it not for Silverwing bowing 
 
Now, it is a story of two new dragonriders in the series. As far as personal combat scenes go, we do not get much more than Hugh’s subduing meeting with Vermithor. However, when the dance is over and Ulf becomes a rider he takes Silverwing for a spin over Kings Landing to celebrate disregarding his safety, and, thereby, he provokes Aemond(Ewan Mitchell) out of Red Keep on Vhagar . However, when Aemond reaches the range where he could see Dragonstone, he no longer pushes the fight any further just by the sight of Rhaenyra’s growing Dracarys army.

Ulf taking a joyride? “No, that was definitely not the sensible play,” Bennett said to TV Guide later on. “But perhaps Ulf is ruled by other emotions. Perhaps, he is not the most reasonable man on the face of this earth. But with the feeling of joy and liberty, and the power of having a dragon I think he wished to make a low flight over the bar in Kings Landing; The Cock Inn and show his boys below that he wasn’t bluffing. ” 
 
The only thing that characterised Ulf during the first part of this season is his eagerness to announce to any of the series’ characters who wants to listen that he is Viserys’ and Daemon’s bastard half-brother. The last time he was in the tavern with his friends, he was drunk and was still ordering them to listen to how noble he was before Rhaenyra called. Yet it takes focus away from engaging in up-close combat with the Dragon, which he could finally do since he is going to die and thus prove his Targaryen heritage. 
 
“Panic sets in and actually he’s not sure about anything, ” Bennett said. ‘Perhaps he was deceived, or he concocted that story himself, It is not all true perhaps, and now there is this dragon that can kill him. ’ 
 
But the gods were on his side after meeting a Silverwing right after choosing a dragon rider who is loose in the saddle and a bit unpredictable of what he could do with such power. 
 
‘My concern for everybody is that Ulf is Fleabottom,’ said Fleabottom man Deep voice. For the first nine years of his existence, he has been trodden underfoot; and for the last two and a half years he has been very selfish in order to secure a life as comfortable as possible But if you put a chap like that, who is selfish because he has nothing, in a position of great authority, I think we shall see what sort of fellow Ulf really is. 
 
This joy ride over Kings Landing that Ulf has been endowed with as a dragon rider cannot place him as a theatre as the Rhaenyras or the Aemonds of this world. Of course, there will certainly be some adversities that they have to face, was the reply of Bennett. 
 
‘I reckon he’s going to be a bit of a maverick,’ he said laughing, ”The 500 footage may not let you fly beside him, or even side-by-side with Ulf because I believe that he will trick around a little bit with this Silverwing, Wow he will see what this baby can do. 
 
Bennett had no inkling during the audition of this particular shoot that Ulf would end up being a dragon rider. In the process of casting and receiving the script of the movie, he was only able to speak about the movie in passing when he got a costume fitting that comes with the role of riding a dragon. 
 
‘I remember somebody who did not even bat an eyelid said to me, We have mocked up your dragon riding costume as well,’ he said. “Well said I, ‘Okay, am I riding a dragon?’ And they replied, ‘No, did no one ever tell you?’ Certainly no one had told me, but I thought the best course of action was to hold on and see what would happen. ” 
 
If the viewer noted that Ulf appeared to be rather rigid and even slightly unstable on the back of the Silverwing at the end of this episode, that was quite actually realistic on Bennet’s part. He said that the method the show employs to mimic to dragon riding is similar to the massive and technologically advanced bucking bronco whose goal in life is to throw you off. 
 
Ulf himself doesn’t have much time to prepare to go on Silverwing for the first time Bennett said the first thing he learned as a dragon rider is to do your stretches. 
 
“The only issue was that in the episode, you remember I do a steep crawl then a steep backstroke on silver wing,” he stated. “So, for the entirety of a day, I was more or less hunched on my knees doing a full yoga backbend,” he said, adding that if he were to do the film again, he would know which yoga poses to do leading up to filming as he was sore after that day on saddle. “I felt like the 44-year-old father of three that I am that day. ”

When and if audiences get to see Ulf and Silverwing fly again it is going to appear completely new to anything that has been done in House of the Dragon. Well, that can only be because as Bennet said, ‘Ulf is sort of refreshing when it comes to the Targaryens who are already at war with themselves. 
 
They argued, I don’t believe you’ve ever seen a dragonrider quite like Ulf because, for one, he is probably one of the few characters who smile, let alongs laughs: ‘He derives a lot of joy from riding his Silverwing. ’ All the other boys are doing sexy Blue Steel, I am flying a dragon – airs. And I’m doing, “I can’t believe I’m joy riding a dragon” which was purely acting. What Ulf is doing is that he is taking something for a spin that is not rightfully his. Thus, I can state that as he belongs to the nobodies, Ulf will make this power work for him. "
