High School Football Rankings: No. 1 Mater Dei, No. 2 St. John Bosco and Other Top-Ranked 25 Showdowns
Well the high school football is getting fired up with Mater Dei (Santa Ana) taking position against St John Bosco (Bellflower) for No 1 against No 2. These two SoCal behemoths meet for the sixth time since 2018 and remain the No.1 and No 2 ranked teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 poll.
This year’s No. 1 Mater Dei is 7-0, stemming from last week’s crushing win against JSerra Catholic of San Juan Capistrano, 41-17. Beierly, the senior quarterback, scored, four touchdowns EWU while Bowman the sophomore tight end received two touchdown passes. The Monarchs appear ready to come out and defend their place at the top of the standings and league.
St. John Bosco which was ranked No. 2 is also unbeaten with an 8-0 record after beating Servite (Anaheim) 27-17 at the SoFi Stadium. Malau’ulu Koa freshman quarterback was the most impactful, going 17 for 25, 241 yards passing and three touchdowns. This latest showdown from two California powerhouses is the 15th meeting since 2016 with Mater Dei winning nine times to five for St. John Bosco.
This Friday will also see the second major battle of the MaxPreps Top 25 with No. 8 North Shore (Houston) confronting No. 16 Atascocita (Humble). North Shore is undefeated with seven wins and an average beat of 40.7; the outcome has been quite one sided this year. Atascocita is also unbeaten with a 7-0 standing; they edged out Kingwood 42-41 in a thriller last week.
Elsewhere, No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) is back on the field after a relatively challenging 21-16 victory over No. 18 Venice (Fla.) on Oct. 4. The Ascenders have a challenging road test this week against an unbeaten 8-0 East St. Louis (Ill.) team that IMG dismantled last year 49-8.
These showdowns won’t doubt define high school football as the season progresses and those teams with state championship dreams are revealed.
