High school football: 2024 Region 2A North preseason projections

High school football: 2024 Region 2A North preseason projections

Current 2A north region coaches have indicated that the up coming season is wide open and will give many a team an opportunity to showcase their talent and be considered among the best region teams.

The one that has already secured a spot on the win list is Layton Christian. Earning the second place in 2A, South Summit has taken three points away from Layton Christian in the semifinals last year; therefore Layten Christian will be a favorite once more. Currently, the team stands first and is expected to win the region and gain the championship.

Layton Christian head Post is occupied by Ray Stowers who in his short time of leadership can say, “I feel blessed to have a good group of kids that just love football and are eager to learn and grow together,”.

Since the team has 12 total returnees from last year; five on the offense, and seven on defense, few changes in team chemistry should be expected.

Stowers also feels certain that he has several big and point making players in his team this year. Among these is the incoming student and running back, Kaya Madhlazi.

“Our four team captains Iverson Report, Brayden Bott, Emili Pauni, and Jobe Tuale will be crucial this season I feel Kaya Madhlazi will have a huge year rushing Also Justin Sau and Daetyn Dean will have to contribute a lot A few underclassmen are going to have to be stepping up and filling some huge shoes as well”, Stowers said.

If any team is future going to mount a serious challenge to Layton Christian for this year’s region title, it will be South Summit who only lost in last year’s championship final to San Juan in a high scoring match.

This year the premiere South Summit team shall still be a force to reckon with in their area of play during this year’s play though they are coming in with a lot of turnover since they are bringing in only two starters; one of them an offence player and the other a defense player.

“After graduating as many starters as we did last year, we are going to need everyone to step up and do their job,” South Summit head coach Michael Ruf went on to say, “We have a whole lot of guys who could have started on other teams last year, they just happened to be behind another great player. So they got great experience and are hungry to prove that they belong in the hunt. ”

Ruf is fully aware that the squads of his interest are among the favorites to clinch the region but that gently cannot be enough without demonstrating this on the field.

“I do not believe too much in preseason polls actually There are tough games all scheduled and there are really great teams we play with Our aim is to go out each and every week with the mind set to rise to the challenge Of course Some of us are young But I think we will surprise people We have so many underclassmen who are willing to prove that they can compete. ”

According to Ruf, the area remains very exposed and perhaps any given team could clinch the sub-region title. Well, who else is out there to dare challenge to be the best team in 2A?

Being fairly new and young, Summit Academy has as much chance as any of the other schools.

Coming back five starters on offense and two on defense, places Summit Academy in a good position to have lots of experience in the trenches.

Among the players coming back on offence are, wide receivers, Kyle Lively, Beau Edmonds, running back Bronson Dixon, centre, Caleb Blake and the OL, Jake Troester. However, one new member of the team this year that will no doubt be counted on is the senior Cash Whitman, the quarterback.

Looking at the forecast of this season, our team looks set to go head to head with the best this season In terms of staffing, we have both our starters returning and young talent joining the team which we believe will stand out well for us this season Having set our work schedule for this current year, the management and coaching staff of Summit Academy, as led by Justin Wilnur, is ready and optimistic to face competition in this season.

Returning starters for Judge Memorial are also numerous, equal to seven on the offence and five on the defence line. He realizes how talented the region is and though it may be a struggle for them, the Judge is up and looking forward to it.

“We have a good number of seniors and juniors who want to improve the standard and general expectation towards the Judge Memorial football team We have a handful of returners that will letter on both sides of the ball as well as a number of sophomores which we hope start and play both ways,” stated first year head coach Jeff Kaufusi.

With the most total players returning as starters from last season, we have American Leadership Academy with 18 players in total. The eight returning personnel on the offense and 10 on the defense, all the fans will be expecting the region to be open in many ways.

“I know the team and especially the backs are very excited to start the season. We do bring back a lot from last year’s squad and there has been much hard work and preparation this off season. The talent at American Leadership is enormous and the approach, work-ethic, and tenacity the players exhibit on daily basis holds the key to how far that team will go,” said the American Leadership head coach Lance Burrell.

Burrell noted that his team is the only team to have their starting quarterback returned on junior Nico Marble and that will be fun to witness this aspect of the season.

Anchoring the 2A north rankings is a team that has had a rough go of it in recent memory: Providence Hall.

Providence Hall is bringing in a new coaching staff and has just two returning starters to the football team to assist the program in having a better season next year.

“We made many changes this year starting by the coaching staff, then the home field was under construction, PH is a young team, but full of eager and unmarked talent,” added Providence Hall head coach Dave Smith.
