High school basketball: West splits all-star games with East

The East-West All-Star basketball games marked on Monday night at Novant Fieldhouse. 
 
Although it is no longer a mecca of mega-stars such as Maravich of Louisiana state and James worthy of UNC, it still garners some of the state’s top graduating seniors to come and play. 
 
West Rowan graduate Lauren Arnold, Rowan County Player of the Year as a senior and a two-time state champ, dressed for the West girls. In the match that left with the score 84/68, Arnold made his contributions with the figures of 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist. 
 
Arnold, who is signed with Mars Hill had an old-fashion three point play during a particular moment from the floor and also through a three point line late in the first half. 
 
Jasmine Felton from Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City was the stand out player in the game. The Campbell recruit put 30 points for the East on 13-for-17 shooting. 
 
In the boys game, the west was rolled 108-92. 
 
Jamias Ferere of Southern Guilford Individual based effectively and efficiently in a Contact Sport game. He scored 30. 
 
Central Cabarrus’ twin guards Chase and Carson Daniel scored 15 points, collected nine rebounds and distributed seven assists for the winners. They are Catawba recruits. 
 
Traditionally, basketball, soccer and football all-star games were held in the middle of July for decades and all of them were organized by the North Carolina Coaches’ Association. Its football all-star has recently been shifted to December, in which organizers believed that more college recruits will be available. The other two are retained during the summer. 
 
Following the Monday night basketball games of which are now held in the Novant Health Fieldhouse, the soccer all-star games are on Tuesday. Girls’ game at Grimsley High Jameison Stadium, will begin at 6. 30 p. m. and will be followed by the boys at 8. 30 p. m. 
 
Before the global pandemic, the North Carolina Coaches’ Association has used to hold basketball, soccer, and football all-star games in the middle of July. Recently they changed the time of their football all-star game, now it is in December, they do that thinking that would attract more college talented football recruits. It stays two of them during the summer. 
 
Coming after the basketball games – now at the Novant Health Fieldhouse but previously at the larger outdoor court — on Monday night are the soccer all-star games on Tuesday. At Grimsley High’s Jameison Stadium the girls’ shootout begins at 6:. 30 p. m. and the boys will follow at 8:. 30 p. m.
