High school baseball champion, MVP Ricardo LG's sacrifice leads to Shieh nomination

Thus, the fifth of thirteen articles in a series that recounts biographies of the 2024 Shieh Su Ying Scholar Athlete Award candidates that the Guam Daily Post brings to the readers is that of Ricardo M. Leon Guerrero II, the baseball champion of Notre Dame High School. 
 
A two time most valuable player in high school baseball and an important figure in making Notre Dame High School win its first ever baseball championship Mafnas Leon Guerrero II is a national hero going to college. Equally important, he will also depart as a Shieh Su Ying Athlete Award contender – and perhaps much more. 
 
“This has been an award that I have been considering to get since high school/ Since junior, so it is good to know that all the effort put in has not been in vain. ”,Student’s name: Leon Guerrero Education plan: Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington. Most all my other fellow scholar-athletes comprehend and know the amount of work that is put in on both ends it is definitely not a walk in the park. 
 
When Leon Guerrero steps up into the basketball court to represent GU for the BBCC Vikings in the Northwest Athletic Conference, he will do so with pride, goals, family, and Faith. 
 
“There is no monotonous day,” said the 18-year-old hurler/slugger referring to the saying that nothing good in life is easy and as such has to be earned. “I must take care of my mind, body and soul for a lifetime and do the best I can at taking care of my body,” Before ending, Leon Guerrero, who shared his recipe for success with the Guam Daily Post, said the following: 
 
In Washington, Leon Guerrero wants to play college baseball that would give him the chance to have a scholarship to an NCAA Division I program and climb up to the big leagues, the Major League Baseball. But he also enjoys the times when he will get to play for his island team in Guam and other worldwide championships. 
 
“My plan, by next year, I want to play at a competitively successful D1 school and then to be able to play in MLB; be wealthy, get a degree to become a sports medicine doctor and to be a representative of Guam in every baseball games as much as possible,” Leon Guerrero said. 
 
Leon Guerrero has claimed that all the successes he has achieved have been due to parents and good role models. 
 
“I want to thank my first trainer, my dad Ricardo, ND coaching team, Guam Junior Nationals coaching team and all trainers that have trained me,” he said. “To my former principal, Mrs. (Mariesha) Cruz-San Nicolas, you have been supporting me and your many other students even if you are no longer at ND To all the teachers at Notre Dame, thank you for teaching me how to keep my grades up and of course, to my mom, Valerie, you are my favorite teacher. ”
