Freddie Prinze Jr. Joins ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel

The actor has signed on the show in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a follow up to the 1997 original horror show in which he appeared together with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.

Hewitt, one of the show’s original principals, is also in negotiations with the producers about her possible return. Until Prinze signs her contract, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King are expected to join her. This movie was originally set to feature Camila Mendes – the actor pulled out from the project recently because of a conflict of schedule as she is currently filming the “Riverdale”.

Where the picking up of the next part will be, I don’t know, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, which is the original is based on a group of four teens from a coast town being stalked one year after covering up a car accident believed to have killed someone by a killer with a hook. And became a hit at the box office with the gross collection of $125 million. This was succeeded by the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” starring Hewitt and Prinze Jr followed by the straight to video spin “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.” But also there’s an amazon prime series with the name of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

Since then Prinze said he almost walked out of the movie because of the director Jim Gillespie who he said was an ‘asshole’ to him on several instances. He claims there was conflict between them because the director had his choice in the role starring Prinze, though the part was given to another actor, Sisto.

Many would describe it as a battle to complete the working day regularly. There was something painful going on for me every day on that movie. But, it saved me for this business in a way,” Prinze said on his horror movie pod-cast “That Was Pretty Scary.” “I’m still thankful to Jim for being such an a-s-s-hole to me because no other director that I’ve worked with felt comfortable crossing those lines as acceptable. I’ve been prepared for every lesser A-hole in the business.”

Robinson, Jennifer Kaytin the Netflix comedies “Do Revenge” and “Someone Great,” is directing the follow-up in the horror franchise. She also shares the script writing credit with Sam Lansky adapted from script by Leah McKendrick which is referred to as “Scrambled”. Neal Moritz will also be back as a producer.

The film will be theatrically distributed across movie theatres by Sony Pictures Entertainment on July 18, 2025.
