Dallastown high school basketball player Praise Matthews decides on her college home
So another praise Matthews has made up her mind on the college that she is going to attend.
And boys basketball coach for Dallastown, Jay Rexroth, who is also the girls basketball coach, could not be happier about it.
‘It is something positive,’ he said of the 6-foot-1 senior who announced his commitment to St. Francis University on Wednesday. “I know that coach [Keila] Whittington is very excited for her and really expects a lot for her that is a load off her back and she can now concentrate to have a good and joyful senior year. ”
Rexroth added that Matthews’ game is coherent and will not have a difficult time when going to college level. Regardless of her height she has been playing a low post in high school, but in SFU, she will play either as a number 3 or 4. And that will be not an issue.
Praise Matthews is as big contributor to the Dallastown girls basketball team as long-time coach Buba
She possesses all of the basic low-post repertoire that is a staple with most post players today but is quite versatile especially for a big woman who is comfortable stretching herself beyond the key. Matthews attempted 25 3-pointers last year and, for the second year in a row, averaged double digits in points. She is also a two time league and game time pa all-star.
“She is quick, she is sneaky,” Rexroth said, summing her up as a player that fits a position which requires a lot of perimeter skills. ”She received it, shot it, and passed it,” Moving on, we have a tradition of having versatile bigs and with her shooting she extends the opening for others because the defense would be focused on her. ”
Matthews’ ball handling skills when attacked is an added advantage to Rexroth especially when taking the ball in. Rather than having to rely on a point guard to get out of a press for example, he can just give the ball to Matthews. This form of pressure is considerably more difficult for teams to carry out because she is of large build and is strong.

Dallastown is the two-time YAIAA tournament champion and last year’s District 3 Class 6A tournament runner up. When play got to the PIAA tourney, their year was over in the preliminary rounds.
Most of the players that were in the squad that was assembled to prepare the Wildcats for the finals will be back on the team and this is good news for those who support the Wildcats because the team will be among the top contenders for the league championship and they will also do well in the playoffs.
Matthews will be transitioning to Red Flash team which at the moment has shown low performances in the past years. Whittington, now in her sixth year has only one having only one winning season to her name. The same team had an overall record of 5-25 and 4-12 in the Northeast Conference last year.
But the Red Flash also have the reigning conference rookie of the year in Kendall Carruthers a 5-7 guard out of Ohio.
