Crestwood football's impact players
Last year, he rush for 1,780 yards and 25 touchdowns; the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial High School’s senior running back “Nate Blasiole added muscle and speed in the offseason,” coach Jack D’Amato noted. An all-state honorable mention in 2022 and second-team all-state in 2023, Blasiole, is the driving force of the Red Devils’ attack. . . . Arguably, Charlie Sommer is in a similar category. Last year, when Sommer went over 1000 passing yards as a junior he “gained muscle and speed in the off season,” said D’Amato, and those changes are evident on the football field. . . . Crestwood really feels comfortable with its starting linebackers and Lee is supported by as Corey Barnauskas, that gained a team-high of 69 tackles last year and Blasiole with 65 tackles. In the words of D’Amato, Barnauskas is good in the run game; he follows the running backs through out since he plays the role of a linebacker. . . Heading into 2017, Giel was the third-leading returning tackler from last year’s squad with 47 stops, Behind only Barnauskas and Blasiole. Not only did he do that, but he did a little bit of everything in 2023 for Crestwood playing as a leading receiver (21 receptions, 339 yards, 3 touchdowns). Anticipate Giel, who is noted by D’Amato as one of the players who practices most intensively, to perform following a spirited preparation period in which he worked on his blocking, his build-up and his running styles.
What is new in the Crestwood football prospectus for the year 2024
Bryce Giel, A. J. Januska, and Wyatt Januska accounted for the lions share of the Red Devils’ catches (51 out of 73) and receiving yards (919 out of 1,248) in the past year. Since A. J. Januska has graduated, others will have to grab the weapons. According to D’Amato be on the lookout for Tommy Georger, a fast and shifty receiver, also, keep an eye on Mason Satterlee a fast tall receiver who has worked of all his talents in the off season including tackling and blocking. Giel and Wyatt Januska along with Tristen Addis a great runner, blocker and tackler. . . . D’Amato has surrounded himself with a team of experienced coaches while coaching at Mantua, with 12 assistants out of which six possessed experience coaching at the varsity level. Josh Jakacki has coached basketball (and track) for Crestwood for years, and arriving over the summer is athletic director Troy Spiker, who coached football at Rootstown a few years ago. They will be assistant who have coaching experience at the head level along with Jack Blasiole, Bob Lieberth, Nate Peters and Tom Sporich.
Crestwood football's outlook
Just glance at the numbers and very much is struck by optimism. Red Devils will be bringing back the position of quarterback, Sommer, bell-cow back Blasiole, leading receivers Giel and Januska and seven players in tackling from the previous year. . . . Just as valuable, Crestwood’s line is stacked with lettermen back in the fold – led by senior Landon Kuenzer, a ‘’lunch-pail type of guy’’ in the assessment of D’Amato, who’s been lettering all four years of high school. Other outstanding returns up front are two-time letter winners, Bryce Bennett who gained needed weight and will is designated as featuring prominently on both first and second line then Jake Eyerman who ‘bettered his strength and speed over thee summer’ and mobility that is just as outstanding as his line capability also wrote his name brightly as a linebacker capable of tracking down the football. . . . Of course, the most significant tactical nerve is the defense area, especially after the Red Devils conceded 40. Averaging 2 points per game in league games in the last season. Perhaps that is where gaining more experience could be beneficial to them. That is the belief Crestwood can establish a winning season for the first time since 2021, the year the team went 7-4 overall and was crowned the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division champions.
